News Item: July Launch
Wednesday, July 07 @ 11:04:42 MDT by Jhinton (121 reads)
Club News
We are GO for Launch on Saturday and Sunday, July 10th and 11th, from the North Site.  It is almost summer time on the prairie.   The extended weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, warm temperatures and the chance of afternoon thundershowers.  Saturday will be for commercial motors only, with the range and waiver (20,000' AGL) expected to be opened by 8 AM until 5 PM. Sunday will be a Tripoli Research Launch day, with the waiver again open at 8 AM until 5 PM, depending on the weather and interest.  Our waiver will be a constant 20,000’ AGL, with “windows of opportunity” for higher altitudes shots to be arranged.   As always, volunteers are needed to help with range set up, operation and clean up. Please contact Ed Dawson at volunteer@ncrocketry.org

Hope to see you out on the range.

News Item: April Launch
Tuesday, April 06 @ 10:32:31 MDT by jhinton (267 reads)
Club NewsIf the weather cooperates, we have a GO for launch this Saturday, April 10th  and Sunday April 11th from the North Site.  Saturday will be for commercial motors only and Sunday will be for TRA Research. Expect the range and waiver (20,000’ AGL) to be operational by 9 AM.   NCR is an Authorized Permitee of the Pawnee National Grassland.

An orientation briefing for participants will be held and will include a discussion of safety and emergency procedures, fire conditions and instruction, applicable rules and regulations, and what is expected of participants with regards to the use of NFS lands under our special use permit.  Recent windy days have elevated the need for extra vigilance of the fire risks on the range.

For those of you that drive a long ways to attend our launch, please check with your favorite weather forecast before leaving home.  The current forecast calls for clear to partly cloudy skies, with temperatures reaching into the low sixties.

Please note that all launch events will be conducted using nationally approved/accepted range safety practices.  The launching of rockets on NFS land is normally prohibited under a Forest Service Region 2 fire regulation.  The issuance of this permit allows launches to take place by exempting the Holder from that regulation for approved launch events only.  All launches, other than those conducted by the Holder during approved launch events, are outside the scope of this permit and are prohibited by Forest Service regulations.

As always, volunteers are needed to help with range set up, operation and clean up. Please contact Ed Dawson at volunteer@ncrocketry.org

Hope to see you out on the range.

News Item: 2010 Meeting
Tuesday, December 29 @ 08:22:30 MST by jhinton (557 reads)
Club NewsNCR’s planned New Year’s Launch, Saturday, January 2nd, has been cancelled.

For reasons which still remain unclear, the Pawnee District Ranger, Lori Bell, has communicated to Jon Halverson, Recreation Special Uses Administrator (Canyon Lakes Ranger District/Pawnee National Grassland, Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests) that our planned January 2nd launch at the Atlas Site needs to be cancelled.  Furthermore, she has reiterated her position that until a signed permit for our activities is in place, ALL launches are off, at least for now.   Mr. Halverson has offered to come to our meeting on January 9th to speak with our group about the situation.  There is also the possibility that Lori Bell and/or Andrea von der Ohe with the US Forest Service might attend as well to meet with our group and answer questions.    If you haven’t already made plans to attend the NCR Annual Business Meeting, please plan on attending this important meeting.

News Item: Oktoberfest
Friday, September 25 @ 08:27:18 MDT by jhinton (754 reads)
Club NewsWe have been given the green light from the US Forest Service for OKTOBERFEST (October 2nd, 3rd and 4th) on the Pawnee National Grassland at NCR’s North Site.  Friday and Saturday are for commercial motors and Sunday the range will be operated under Tripoli Research rules.  Did you pre-register?  At this point in time, you are probably better off saving the postage and bringing the completed form with you.  On-site registration will be available. Friday, Oct. 2nd, Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday October 4th.   Motor vendors have been contacted and thanks to several club volunteers, our equipment will be ready for another memorable launch.  Our waiver will be a constant 20,000’ AGL, with anticipated “windows of opportunity” for higher altitudes shots.  We anticipate having the range set up and ready by 9 AM on Friday, and we’ll operate until 6 PM.  On Saturday and Sunday the range and waiver will be open at 8 AM.  Wristbands will be required for ALL flyers and ALL flyers will need to be registered.  Sunday is a TRA Research Launch Day and flyers must be current Tripoli members and certified L2 or higher to fly research loads.  The extended weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with characteristically light winds and comfortable temperatures for Fall on the prairie.  In other words, it should be an awesome weekend for flying.  Please remember that Range Safety is in everyone’s best interest.  Enjoy Oktoberfest responsibly.

News Item: Apologies to all
Saturday, May 30 @ 08:49:47 MDT by WMusselman (865 reads)
Club NewsApologies to all for the mess on the website last night and today. Another automated spammer apparently broke in and posted porno ads to the forums. This has gotten out of hand and measures will be taken. I just moved yesterday (Friday) and do NOT have a new Internet connection set up yet so dealing with this has been a bit of a nightmare. Rest assured we WILL take measures to stop this crap in its tracks - I will need to research appropriate measures for the webforums software that we use as well as methods for preventing the automated registration of new users on the site. Unfortunately this may necessitate moderation on new user accounts where we validate the user before allowing them to join. In the meantime, I have deleted the user accounts involved in the hopes this might temporarily solve the problem. If it does not, I may have to shut the forums down for a few days until a solution is found. Watch this space for further news. Warren Musselman - Webmaster
